In recent years, more and more customers prefer to equip wort grant for their brewing system, especially for the brewhouse with bigger capacity.
The wort grant also be called buffer tank.
We all know the location of the wort grant on the brewing system generally below the mash lauter tun. During the process of wort lautering, the wort will firstly go into the buffer tank by gravity instead of pump. It will ensure the smoothly lautering and incase making the grain bed too tight.
Then the wort will be transfer back into the mash/lauter tun by pump. It is better to equip one automatic level controlling system for the wort grant. The pump will auto opened when the wort grant filled with plenty of wort. And auto stopped if there is no enough wort in the wort grant.
But if without the auto controlling system, maybe it will need the brewmaster to check the grant usually and control the pump by manual. Generally one valve will be mounted between the grant and pump. It is avaliable for the brewmasters to adjust the flow speed and try to keep balance about the speed of wort in and wort out of the buffer tank, and keep the wort in the wort grant staying in a right level.
