Is it necessary to heat the fermentation tank in winter?
Usually here is no need to heat the fermenters even in winter. The fermenting is a process that produce much heat and only has high temperature, this is why cooling is so important.
For home brew (like 5L,10l), the liquid in the tank is easily affected by the environment temperature due to the small volume, so we must put the tank into a fridge to keep cold or cover it to keep warm.
When the volume is up to above 100L, the temperature inside the tank is less and less affected by the environment. The yeast action in the fermenter is so strong and is producing so much heat that need to be cooled in winter too.
