The motorized valve and solenoid valve can both be controlled via the control panel in the brewery. They can be used for the brewhouse plumbing to control the liquid flow or beer cooling system. But which is better than which?
Motorized valve is more suitable to big diameter tubing/piping such as over 50mm (the glycol inlet on the fermenter is only 25cm) and usually used in industrial tubing and better used in dry environment. If here is no special concerning to use the motorized valve, the solenoid valve is actually good enough for a microbrewery, quicker on/off, small body, easy wiring, much more economical.
If the intention to use the motorized valve is for the variable wort flow and avoiding 'hammering', then the motorized valave is actually not necessary, since the wort pump is VFD controlled, and the manualy butterfly valves have 12 positions to adjust the flow, which already brings operation convenience and enough flexibility.
If the brewmasters need to adjust the flow Precisely, then the motorized valve is necessary and also needs to work with a flow meter This is usually no need in the whole brewhouse but some special functions. The other reason to use the motorized valve: some brewmaters prefer higher level automation for bigger brewery (like 5000L), which also means higher budget however.
for this intention, some of them also use the pneumatic valves alternatively.
