There are various ways of heating like steam, electric, direct fire ect. But steam type is preferred by a lot of beer brewers because it can heat equally and fast. It can also control easily.
But what size is good for a beer brewing equipment?
Boilers are sized according to the heating capacity needed. Boilers works at 80-85% efficiency. Small beer breweries are generally equipped with steam boilers sized to produce 50,000 BTU(20kg/h) per barrel of the brewhouse capacity. Then for a brewery equipment with a brew capacity of 10 barrels, a boiler sized for 60,000 BTU(200kg/h) of input energy is standard adn actually produces about 486,000 BTU/h at an efficiency of 81%. Boiler hourse power is an alternative measure of size( 1hp=33,000 BTU/H). Nature gas is common fuel used for boiler operation. When burned, it releases about 1,000 BTU/FT³.
The boiler usually is lower pressure type lower at 1 bar or at biggest 2 bar for small breweries equipment and systems.
