Cold water tank ( CWT) and Glycol water tank ( GWT)
Today, let us talk about what is the difference between CWT and GWT? How big the GWT should I use for our micro brewery?
Many of our customer have misunderstanding with us about these two tanks. The glycol water tank is must needed instead of cold water tank. The Glycol water tank included the mixture of glycol and city water, its temperature generally at -3~4 celsius. It was cooled by chillers, and the glycol water used for cooling both of the fementers and wort. When cooling wort, the fist stage is city water, the second stage is glycol water.
But for the cold water tank, it included only cold city water, no glycol included. It generally with jacket and cooled by glycol water from glycol water tank. The cold water will cooling the wort in the second stage of heat exchanger instead of glycol water. It is good for wort, as you know in case there are any problems with the heat exchanger. The wort will not be polluted by glycol water. Many of our customers prefer to have both of the glycol tank and cold water tank for their bigger systems.
In our standard, if without Cold liquor tank, the capacity of the Glycol water tank generally is 2-2.5 times of the brewhouse. We have some reasons as below wiht such big capacity.
(1). The enough glycol water to ensure the hot wort could be cooled within about 40 min, you know it is one important step.
(2). Our standard Glycol water tank volume could support max 8-10 pieces of double batch fermenters or brite tanks. Many of our customers have small beer production at early stage. But they prefer to expand their business in the future by adding more fermenters. So our glycol is enough for support the future fermenters as well.
(3). Sometimes customers may have many pieces of fermenters and brite tanks need cooling duirng the busy brewing days. They may brew several batches per day, so after the wort was cooled by glycol water, the glycol water will with higher temperature than before. If the glycol tank without enough volumn, the fermenters will have no enough glycol water for cooling down their temperature at the same time. So we equip such big glycol tank in our standard.
