Our story:
Kweza Brewery was born out of a shared vision to create a world-class brewery that not only produces high-quality craft beer but also serves as a platform for empowering African women. Women have long been the custodians of beer-making traditions across many cultures, including Rwanda, but have rarely been able to profit from their skills in a commercial context. Kweza’s mission is to change this narrative by enabling women to run every aspect of the brewery, from production to leadership, and ultimately share in the profits.
In 2018, the brewery gained new momentum when Jessi Flynn joined as Co-founder and Managing Director. With the addition of a bottling line funded by the initial Kickstarter campaign and growing support from local and international investors, Kweza set out to build a modern brewery that would set new standards for quality and sustainability in the region.
As Kweza’s vision began to take shape, the brewery needed state-of-the-art equipment that would align with its values of quality, sustainability, and efficiency. After a thorough search, Kweza chose Tiantai Beer Equipment to supply a complete 10HL (1000L) brewing system that would serve as the foundation for their operations. Tiantai’s reputation for providing reliable, custom-built brewing systems made them the perfect partner for Kweza’s ambitious goals.
In early 2023, after 30 days of shipping, the equipment arrived successfully in Kigali, Rwanda. The arrival of the brewing system marked a significant milestone in Kweza’s journey, Tiantai’s technicians and Kweza’s team working together to ensure that the equipment was ready for production. The brewery was soon equipped to produce a wide range of beers, capitalizing on Rwanda’s rich biodiversity to create unique and flavorful brews.bringing them one step closer to realizing their dream of producing world-class beer using locally-sourced ingredients. By providing women with opportunities to lead, invest, and profit from the craft of beer-making, Kweza is building generational wealth and transforming the traditional role of women in the beer industry.
